For younger people, falls are a minor inconvenience and rarely have a deeper effect on their physical or mental health. However, for senior or elderly patients it’s another story. Falls when you are older can often cause physical problems and long healing times.
When these falls happen, the focus is mostly on getting physically better. However, the psychological and emotional impact of these falls can be just as debilitating as the physical ones.
One of the biggest impacts of a fall is losing confidence in everyday movements. Often, because of this loss of confidence, patients can adopt a sedentary lifestyle. They do not move as much from fear of falling again. Sadly, this means that their joints seize up and they become more at risk of falling again.

Setting goals with the Well Balanced centre
One of the things we encourage here at The Well Balanced Centre is setting yourself reasonable goals. Setting goals gives you something to aim for and also helps you see how far you’ve come. It’s a good idea to set yourself small goals and then one larger goal. For example, a small goal could be ‘I want to climb up the stairs whilst assisted’. Then, a larger goal could be ‘I want to regain confidence when moving’. In your initial session, we will sit down with you and chat about your goals. We can then create a tailored physiotherapy and movement plan to help achieve them.
